Zephyr: Trendsetting Technology & Design

by

Earlier this month, I travelled to KBIS to see the newest kitchen and bath product introductions and to identify the most popular design trends.

While I was there, I took over Zephyr’s Instagram account in their first ever Designer Takeover!

For two days, I saturated their feed with images and videos of some of the cool things I was seeing while I was there.

Now, I’ve had a chance to visit the Zephyr showroom in San Francisco so I know about the company’s commitment to innovation and superior design.

Although, Zephyr did not host a display booth at the show this year, I thought it would be fun to share with you a few Zephyr products that fit into each of the major trend categories I spotted at KBIS!

COLOR

In my KBIS recap post, I talked about how excited I was to see so much color at the show!

Zephyr, a company known for its innovative and design-driven ventilation systems, has offered colorful hood options for years!

The Horizon Range Hood is a good example.

The Horizon hood comes in several dramatic color options, and it’s narrow profile makes it ideal for small spaces… which leads me to my next theme.

SLIDE, GLIDE & HIDE

The second big theme at KBIS was products and profiles designed with small spaces in mind. I call it “slide, glide, and hide.”

Zephyr’s Lux Island is an example of this trend.

The Lux Island Ventilation System mounts into the ceiling and is ideal for the homeowner who has an open-concept but doesn’t want the obstruction of a traditional island hood.

INTUITIVE AUTOMATION

Trend number three is the most technical of all of the trends.

Many of the most exciting new products featured automation–motion sensors, remote control activation, open/close with the touch of a finger…These features were everywhere!

Don’t get me wrong! At first glance these features are very cool and have a very futuristic feel to them.

However, at its core, the push toward automation is really about a theme we’ve seen throughout the entire design industry: conservation.

Automation allows the end user to get the most efficient use of the product while reducing access energy consumption.

Zephyr’s proprietary DCBL Suppression System™ is an energy-efficient motor that is more powerful and nearly inaudible!

The Modena Wall Hood features this system and you can watch the video below to see it in action.

FASHION-INFLUENCED

Fashion trends are having a very noticeable impact on home product designs.

Zephyr’s Padova by designer Fu-Tung Cheng illustrates this trend by inviting the consumer to customize the hood with the materials and colors of their choice!

METALLIC FINISHES

The final trend is the increased number of metallic finishes offered on everything from hardware to faucets.

Manufacturers are offering timeless brushed nickel, matte black, rose gold or the hot new black stainless steel!

Before I left for KBIS, Zephyr gave us an exclusive look at their newly released Black Stainless Steel hood options, and let me tell you they are right on trend!

Special thanks to my friends at Zephyr for allowing me to participate in their Instagram #ZephyrDesignerTakeover.

I had a blast, and I hope you enjoyed following along!

Now, I want to hear from you!

Which of these amazing Zephyr products do you absolutely love?
