Friday Favorites: The Best Beach Gear

Today, I’m headed out for an epic family vacation.

Two weeks (yes TWO!) on a Caribbean cruise with stops in Jamaica, St. Maarten and the Bahamas!

St. Maarten

I cannot tell you how excited I am to have a chance to soak up the sun, read some good books, spend some quality time with my family, and of course seek out new inspiration for my design projects.

Travel has always been one of my biggest sources of inspiration, and this trip should offer plenty of fodder for my travel-loving heart!

Once a month, I share a post highlighting some of my favorite things.

In my dreams, I could afford to make this like Oprah’s favorite things show. Remember those?

It’s when she would highlight her favorite products and gadgets and each and everyone in the studio audience would get one too?

No lie. For YEARS my mom and I would dream of getting tickets to appear on this show.

We just knew it was our destiny to be in the audience jumping up and down with happy tears streaming down our faces like the images we had seen of previous audiences.

Anyway, although I can’t afford to GIVE you these items, I can still share their fabulousness, right?!?

So without further ado, here are some of my favorite essentials for beach vacations!

Coyuchi / Bolinas Beach Towel

The first thing I think about when I think of a beach vacation is finding the perfect spot to lay out my beach towel and soak up some sun!

This towel by Coyuchi is not only stylish, but it’s larger enough to give me a comfortable amount of real estate on the sand while also be super soft to the touch!

Nordstrom Rack / Kate Spade Blossom Sunglasses

Rose colored glasses (or blush, rather) don’t have to be a negative thing!

I love the style of these Blossom sunglasses by Kate Spade, and I especially love that they come in several different colors including my favorite shown above!

WalmartHigh Powered Dual USB Portable Power Bank

The thought of running out of battery life on my iphone or ereader admittedly gives me a bit of anxiety.

Am I alone on this?

Having a portable power charger is definitely something I consider an essential, and this option from Walmart is stylish as well as cost effective!

Amazon / Kindle Paperwhite E-reader – White with Built-in Light

Speaking of ereaders, there is nothing I love more than spending hours on a beach or near the pool reading some of the books I’ve downloaded onto my electronic reading device.

My first device was an Amazon Kindle (it was a “push” present after I gave birth to my daughter), and in the past several years I’ve migrated over to reading on my ipad via the Kindle app.

After struggling against the glare of the sun on the last several beach trips, though, I’m going back to the Kindle–this time in the Paperwhite format–because reading outdoors will be much more enjoyable on this device.

Lilly Pulitzer / Breezy Tote – Clear Beach and Bae

Finally, you’ve got to have SOMETHING to carry all of these essentials around in!

You can probably guess why I, resident color lover, was drawn to this gorgeous beach tote by Lilly Pulitzer.

The bag is supper cute and large enough to hold all of the essentials above.

I hope you enjoyed this lighthearted post, and I hope you follow along on my inspired travels over on my instragram account:

In the meantime, have you taken a beach vacation this summer? Do you plan on taking one in the remaining summer months? Let me know where you went (or where you are going) and what YOUR beach essentials are in the comments below.
